Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua Popular known as Anthony Joshua is a world class British Professional Boxer who has an impressive record of 22 wins and 21 by knockout. He became the world heavyweight champion after obtaining the IBF title in 2016. Joshua was born in Watford, England on 15th October, 1989 by Nigerian parents. Anthony Joshua has three siblings (Jacob, Janet and Loretta). He spent his early childhood in Nigeria where he graduated with first class in Economics from the University of Jos, Plateau state.
He was so competitive in sports such as football and track. He worked briefly as a contractor and later went into boxing.
Anthony Joshua started as an amateur boxer at the age of 18. He joined Finchley ABC club in Barnet, North London. In 2009 he won his first Haringey Box Cup. In 2010, he followed up with the ABA senior championship and was offered $70 thousand to go professional but he turn down the offer.
He was named the Amateur Boxer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Club in 2011 after winning GB Amateur Boxing Championships in the year 2010. He won the silver medal in the 2011 World Championships and gold medal at the 2012 London Olympic Summer Games.
Joshua became a professional boxer in the year 2013 with his first matchup against Emanuele Leo of Italy on 5th October, 2013. He won the match in the first round, by the way of Technical knockout. He improved his record in 2014 to 9-0 after defeating Denis Bakhtov of Russia for the WBC International Heavyweight Title. In 2015, Anthony Joshua won the Commonwealth heavyweight title and the British heavyweight title. In Apr 2017, he defeated Wladimir Klitschko to defend his IBF heavyweight title. In September 2018, he defeated Alexander Povetkin in the 7th round of knockout. He got his first ever defeat in a match against Andy Ruiz in the year 2019. Anthony Joshua’s professional boxing record stands at 22 wins and 1 losses.
They will be a rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz later this year(2019).
